Department of Mechanical Engineering
The Mechanical Engineering courses provide a broad base of sound theoretical and empirical knowledge which can be applied in a wide range of activities. The Department of Mechanical Engineering has four divisions: Mechanical Engineering Science, Mechanical
Dynamics, Systems Design, Robotics and Welfare Engineering.
The subjects are as follows :
- The Division of Mechanical Engineering Science provides scientific subjects which are essential for mechanical engineering studies. The main subjects are Applied Mathematics, Mechanism, Applied Electromagnetism, Strength of Materials, and Solid Mechanics.
- The Division of Mechanical Dynamics is in charge of the education and studies related to dynamics of mechanical systems. Analysis of dynamics is important for several fields of mechanical engineering. The fields covered by the Division are as follows: Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Fluid Dynamics, Mechanical Vibrations and Dynamics, and Thermal Environmental Engineering.
- The Division of Systems Design is concerned with the education and studies of design theory and techniques for systems. The main subjects are Mechanical Design, Control Systems Design, Energy Conversion Engineering, Computer Controlled Systems, Mechanical Wave Dynamics, and Manufacturing and Machinery.
- The Division of Robotics and Welfare Engineering is in charge of the education and studies of controlled machines and their application to welfare problems. In order to design and develop human-friendly robots, the Division provides educational subjects, such as Sensors and Actuators Technology, Robotics, Biomechanics, Biomedical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering for Sports.
The research projects
The program of Mechanical Engineering is accredited by JABEE (Japan Accreditation Board for Engineering Education) since 2006, and provides high level education of Engineering fields.
Scientific and technological research in the department are often carried out in collaboration with industries, national institutes, and international authorities. Some of the research projects are illustrated with the photographs that follow :
